The Department of Evolutionary Biology runs a graduate research program in Evolutionary Genetics and we are also responsible for undergraduate education in genetics, genomics and molecular evolution for students in biology, biotechnology and bioinformatics. Most of our research is done within either of six research groups (Ellegren, Götherström, Jakobsson, Johannesson, Leonard, Vilà), with expertise in conservation genetics, evolutionary genomics, molecular archaeology, molecular ecology molecular evolution and population genetics. A total of about 35 people are working at the Department of which some 15 are graduate students and 10 are international post-docs. English is working language. Our laboratories reside in new localities and are well-equipped with state-of-the art instruments for large scale DNA sequencing, microsatellite and SNP genotyping, expression analysis and ancient DNA work, which is shared among the research groups.
Responsible Professor is Hans Ellegren (Hans.Ellegren[at]ebc.uu.se).
In terms of University organization, the ”Department of Evolutionary Biology” is a sub-department, or section/unit, within the larger Department of Evolution, Genomics and Systematics at the Evolutionary Biology Centre of Uppsala University.
