Welcome to the Internet course about Carl Linnaeus
The father of modern classification of fauna and floraThis site is designed to give you a taste of the Internet course that will begin in September 12 in 2005. The course corresponds to five weeks′ full-time study and gives 7.5 ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) points. It is divided into five parts, of which one involves writing a five-page interdisciplinary essay on a subject of your own choice.
You will study Linnaeus′ life and work, set in time and place. You will together follow the historical traces of Linnaeus and his globetrotting students. You will learn about modern-day science in the fields in which Linnaeus worked. The scientific focus will be on systematic botany, his principal discipline.
The course will provide you with a good understanding of systematic botany as it is today, and while learning about Linnaeus you will also learn about Uppsala and Sweden.
