Classification of flowering plants
The system used at the department is that published by the "Angiosperm Phylogeny Group II" in Botanical Journal of the Linnean Society 141: 399-436 (2003) and is an update of the "Angiosperm Phylogeny Group" classification in Annals of the Missouri Botanical Garden 85: 531-553 (1998).
Several families are deliberately not classified to order to avoid undesirable non-monophyletic taxa and when phylogenetic relationships are unclear.
