About the Department of Systematic Botany at Uppsala University
The Department of Systematic Botany was formed as one of several successors to the former Department of Practical Medicine where Linnaeus once was professor.
The parts that later became the Department of Systematic Botany were first housed in the Linnaeus' Garden (situated in Uppsala City), and then from 1807 in the Linneanum-building in the Botanical Garden at Uppsala University. Until the beginning of February 1999 the Department was housed together with the Botanical Museum, both in Linneanum and in the slightly more modern (1897) "Dean's house". The department then moved to the Evolutionary Biology Centre, about 200 m from the earlier location.
